Atlassian alumni has joined Sydney startup as Head of Engineering

Qwilr, online proposal and quote software startup, has announced the appointment of Ben Mackie as Head of Engineering. Ben joins from Atlassian where he spent six years leading engineering, platform and technology partnerships for Confluence, Atlassian’s workplace collaboration platform, and scaling product growth and experimentation across the company.

Ben is looking forward to moving from a large business to a smaller one, and the freedom for innovation that brings.

“I loved my time at Atlassian,” he said, “but I am moving to Qwilr at a very exciting time. I will be able to contribute exciting ideas to a growing company which is disrupting the online documentation space.”

In this role, Ben will be responsible for building Qwilr’s capabilities to deliver more features and value for customers. He will also grow Qwilr’s team of world-class engineering talent and lead internal and external R&D efforts.

“My ambition is to further grow Qwilr’s world-class engineering team and to create an environment where great talent can flourish, whilst forging technological relationships with partners that will achieve our vision of truly transforming the way that businesses communicate.”

Ben’s appointment comes as Qwilr continues to gain momentum, with more than double net revenue growth over the past quarter, compared to 2019. Qwilr also raised over $10.8 million of Series A funding earlier this year, as the world saw a shift to remote work and embraced tech companies that would assist them in doing so.

Mark Tanner, Co-founder of Qwilr has said: “Even in tough economic conditions, Qwilr has continued to experience rapid growth, as companies realise the importance of using beautiful, intuitive sales and marketing documents to communicate with customers.”

Ben brings over 25 years of experience to the role, having worked in various engineering, delivery, product and sales roles within the enterprise and B2B software industry, across multiple markets. As Head of Engineering at Atlassian, Ben was responsible for cloud technology transformation, platform strategy, people leadership and rapid scale of engineering teams across Australia and the US. He has also previously held roles at WST Pacific and ISS Group.
