Bo$$ Camp aims to create young entrepreneurs

A unique camp will aim to ignite interest in entrepreneurship in young people aged 15-18.

Conceived at Startup Adelaide Weekend, thanks to a pitch by passionate youth advocate Sasha Dragovelic, Bo$$ Camp will see around 150 young people from across South Australia take part in a two-day event.

The camp, taking place on October 8-9 at the Australian Science and Maths School, will have young people with a wide variety of interests, but with entrepreneurship as a common goal.

“There are kids coming along from public and private schools, faith schools and colleges,” says Dragovelic. “With interests ranging from the arts and creative areas to retail, selling, science and technology, we have some kids that want to be across everything and others that want to start their own business!”

Eight speakers will share their stories, aiming to give potential entrepreneurs an idea of how to succeed in the business world. The young participants will also have the chance to pitch an idea to a panel of judges, with prizes including Apple iPads and a week of work experience at Adelaide’s tech and creative community, Majoran.

“I want my son to be the best that he can be through guided learning,” says Ben, a father sending his son to the camp. “I want him to get exposed to entrepreneurship, working in teams, and learning the commercialization process.  To realize that he can create his own new business, and to connect with passionate mentors that want him to succeed in life.”

Local South Australian entrepreneurs have helped make the camp a reality, and businesses, schools and the startup community have come on board with sponsorship and support.

“Support has come from so many different businesses and people,” says Wendy Perry, in charge of Strategic Relations. “From councils, family members, government and MP’s, media, parents, private sector businesses, regional development agencies, schools, teachers and the startup ecosystem, universities and youth organisations – everyone loves the concept of BO$$ camp.  Many people want more teens to consider building their own business and starting their future like a boss.”
