Free business workshop for Indigenous designers

Indigenous designers will have the opportunity to enhance their business skills at a free workshop ‘Your supply chain – from manufacturing to funding your business,’ which will be held in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta.

The two hour workshop is one of 300 events running for Small Business September, the annual celebration of small businesses across NSW. It will offer tips on manufacturing, supply chains and small business financing.

Small business operators are urged to reserve their places early for the workshop, taking place on Friday 9 September, from 9:45 am-12:30 pm, at the NSW Trade and Investment Business Centre, on  Level 2, 470 Church Street, Parramatta.

The workshop will include mentoring by three leading experts including Sarah Gale, a fashion buyer for leading retailers with three decades of experience. Her seminar will feature advice on how to create a functional supply chain and how to present at trade shows.

Gale has been mentoring Aboriginal designers over the last four months and offering advice to equip them for the commercial world.

“It has been a fabulous experience and I have enjoyed helping people connect their ancestry with the present times through their creative talents and determination to succeed in business,” she said.

Eloise Bishop from Ethical Clothing Australia will also be speaking at the workshop, providing details of accredited ethical clothing manufacturers.

“It’s imperative for emerging fashion and textile labels to be trailblazers in raising both industry and consumer awareness of the importance of the ethical production,” she said.

In addition, social entrepreneur Garry Harris will explore options for sourcing finance for small and micro business loans.

Small Business September is hosting 15 events specifically for business people of Indigenous background to help them work on their business, not just in it.
