Julia Gillard is a Bad Role Model

Not surprising this week’s blog is about our new PM. But not about whether she will be good or bad. I will leave that for the political pundits.

Julia GillardNo my bone with Julia: she is a bad role model for women and men. She seems to be a workaholic!

In many of her interviews post the ‘coup de grace’ she talks about the sacrifices she has made – politically and personally. Are these sacrifices worth it?

I have never seen or heard her talk about exercise.

We see her constantly working. Was that her choice or was she driven to do this by her former boss?

I know she is an AFL fan (Western Bulldogs, I think?) and goes to their games. I wonder if she chooses to go the games or goes because she has to/should as part of the image.

Is she not married as she has not found the right man? Or is that she has been to busy to get to know Tim Mathieson better?

So many questions to know more about Julia’s work life balance. But in this case maybe perception is reality!

I genuinely felt sorry for Kevin Rudd as he “blubbered” his way through his speech.

From everything I have read, Kevin Rudd only ever wanted to be PM, similar to Gillard (or some say to a greater extreme) he made plenty of sacrifices and so too did his family and for 30 months he achieved his goal.

I consider the pleasure short term reward after nearly 22 years striving for it.

My point is that we can achieve our career goals.

Thanks to the media we can see it come tumbling down around us.

I don’t think any job is more important than:

  • A walk in the sun on the beach;
  • Playing chasings with your kids;
  • Pumping iron in the gym; or
  • Even catching a great movie.

Julia, should you remain as PM please set a great example for every Australian on how to keep a balanced and happy life.

What do you think?
