It’s often the little things that incite the most rage.

Office managers and employees across Australia say their daily IT and printing frustrations lead to increased costs and decreased productivity.

Fuji Xerox recently surveyed 1,000 Australian employers and employees about their office environments and work practices. Not surprisingly, IT was the top frustration for 33 per cent of respondents. Printing issues also ranked highly, causing irritation for 16 per cent of office workers.

“Technology may have advanced over the years, but IT is obviously a major frustration for office workers who rely heavily on these resources. This could be anything from email and phone systems or general office equipment to document management devices such as copiers and printers,” Anthony Toope from Fuji Xerox Printers said. He added that these general frustrations vary between employers and employees, but both seem to be equally irritated by their workplace’s IT issues.

Printer-related frustrations include paper jams (30 per cent), simple tasks such as replacing toner (20 per cent) and loading paper (17 per cent) and the distance from the desk to the printer (13 per cent).

Troubleshooting printing errors can waste precious work time and is a frustration for 19 per cent of office workers.

For employers, other office pet peeves include costs and budgeting (38 per cent) and staff productivity (27 per cent) while employees are more concerned about office layout (22 per cent), their boss (19 per cent), noise (18 per cent) and fellow colleagues (14 per cent).
