Ad campaign warrants consumer attention

South Australia’s Office of Consumer and Business Affairs is running an advertising campaign to remind consumers of their warranty and refund rights in the state, including ads in newspapers and an information hotline.

Consumer Affairs Minister Gail Gago, believes some businesses do not provide consumer with correct information about warranties.

In SA, all products are covered by a statutory warranty, she says. “That means the product must be fit for the purpose for which it was sold and, if it’s not, then the person, if they’ve used the product in line with the instructions, is entitled to a refund, or to have the product repaired or replaced.”

Traders should remember their obligations with regard to offering warranties, including ensuring that products:

* Are fit for purpose;
* Are not faulty;
* Perform to an appropriate standard.
