Gina Rinehart takes out Telstra business woman award
Gina Rinehart was last night named the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year at an awards ceremony in Melbourne.
The award was the second in one week for Rinehart, after she won the Commonwealth Bank Business Owner Award on Monday night.
Following the death of her father Lang Hancock in 1992, Rinehart took over the Perth family business, one of Australia’s largest mining houses, Hancock Prospecting.
She issued a statement after being named the Telstra Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year.
‘”In being honoured with this award, I pay tribute to the many thousands of Australians working in the pastoral, mining and resources industries of which I am proud to be a part,’ the statement said.
‘It’s exciting to witness the increasing role of women in these businesses, particularly as we enter a new era in international relations.”
Holly Kramer, Telstra director and ambassador to the awards, said Rinehart’s achievements were a inspiration to Western Australia’s business community.
‘Georgina’s accomplishments and outstanding business success locally and overseas make her a particularly outstanding role model for other Australian business women,’ she said in a statement.
